Chiang Mai 2022

Chiang Mai is in the Northern part of Thailand and its about an hour flight from Bangkok.  The history of Chiang Mai goes back at least 700 years and the name literally mean New City. Back in those days, each of these so call “city” are actually a wholly independent “country” with its own ruler/king. Chiang Mai, in its heyday, was constantly under threats of attacks by Burma that they had to build a wall and a moot around the city.  Remnants of the old wall are still standing as the modern city expanded beyond and streets run alongside both banks of the moot. When I first saw the moot, I thought that it is odd that they would keep a canal with stagnant water before realizing the significance of this body of water. As part of maintenance, they run water aerators at scheduled intervals.
