Silversmithing Project #1

This is actually the second project I worked on if you count the ring I made 20 years ago.

Not sure what this stone is, got it from the instructor on my first day at Tri-Community Class. The size is perfect for a pendant.  (45mm x 34mm).   Start with putting design ideas to paper.

Start sizing and shaping the bezel. Once it is soldered, we will need to make sure there are no gap between the bezel and the backing plate. Sanding is required to make it flush with the backing plate. Laying out the design to get a visual of the end product (bottom right photo).  Here, I was trying to have twisted wire wrap around 70% of the stone and have 5 balls sitting on jump rings lining the bottom.

However, my friend Sunny, who is getting this pendant, doesn’t want all the bells and whistles!  He wants a minimalist look. Too bad, I think it would look cool with those balls.

Lesson learned:  One thing I would redo is the bail. I didn’t put too much thought into it.
